Passage of Time

This installation, “Passage of Time,” explores the profound relationship between perception, environment, and temporality through a poetic lens rooted in both artistic and ecological inquiry. Composed of self-captured photographs of pond reflections printed on transparent films and meticulously arranged on twenty acrylic sheets, the work conjures an immersive and contemplative experience that blurs the boundaries between materiality and the ephemeral. Each acrylic panel, like a single moment or memory, captures a fleeting slice of reflected light and shadow, suggesting the continual flux inherent in both nature and human consciousness.

The installation’s transparency is central: it invites viewers to look through each layered image, emphasizing how perception is shaped by what lies behind, before, and in between. This evokes the notion of ephemerality—how reflections on water are momentary, shifting with the slightest change in light, wind, or movement, never to be replicated exactly the same way. Through this metaphor, the work draws attention to the fragility of ecological systems and the impermanence of natural phenomena, underscoring the urgent need for environmental awareness and reverence.

Philosophically, “Passage of Time” gestures towards the continuum of existence, where time, like water, cannot be grasped but is constantly in motion, weaving the present with traces of the past and hints of the future. The steady sequence of panels creates a rhythm akin to the passage of days, seasons, or even collective memory—each image separate, yet part of a larger, fluid whole. By transforming the ordinary reflection of a pond into an unfolding visual meditation, this piece calls for deeper reflection on one’s place within the cycles of nature. Ultimately, it invites the viewer to witness not just the surface, but the profound realities beneath—the interwoven fates of environment, time, and self.
